Tips for a successful bike commute:

  • Be willing to try a few different routes at first (see Winnipeg Cycling Map). Sometimes an ideal route on a map doesn't match what you had expected. A willingness to try some options will lead you to the best route for you.
  • Consider what you need to bring with you each day. Over time, you may find a pannier, rack or basket is ideal to ensure you have a comfortable ride.
  • Tune it up. A few tweaks throughout the season will keep your bike running efficiently. Check out if there is a community bike shop near you; you can use their tools and learn how to maintain your bike yourself!
  • Cycling in winter is fun, but it does require some additional planning. Find hints and tips to keep you cycling all year long here!
  • Enjoy the ride. It's too easy to be stressed and rushed in our busy lifestyles. Take this time to breath in the fresh air, absorb the exercise and be thankful you aren't stuck in traffic!
